Description: The Dell Fine Arts Center at the St. Andrew's Episcopal School is a three-building complex consisting of a 34,000sf Performing Arts Building with a 400-seat Proscenium Theater and a 125- seat Black Box Theatre, a 6,200sf Music Building and a 6,200sf Art Studio. With a construction budget of $16.5 million, the site plan of the Fine Arts Center was built on the formal campus layout adjacent to it, but shifts the axis slightly to give the Center a distinct identity. The resulting "Arts Quad" links the new buildings to the existing campus and provides for informal gathering spaces like the Sculpture Garden and Amphitheatre that will broadcast the students' artistic endeavors to the greater campus. Buildings on the Arts Quad echo the architectural vocabulary of the existing campus with their shed roof forms, deep porches with ample North-facing glass and covered walkways. The material palette of patterned cast-in-place concrete, limestone veneer, composite metal panels with subtle color shifts and glass curtain walls complement the regional materials on the existing buildings, but provide an updated aesthetic for this state-of-the-art complex.
